About the Author
Mayadhar Mansinha (also spelled Mansingh) (1905 – 1973) was a towering figure in the Odia literature in the twentieth century. His very first book, Dhoopa (Offering of Incense), a bouquet of romantic poems, published in 1931 while still a student, set his reputation as a romantic poet and a literary genius. After earning a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Durham, Mansingh went on to become a litterateur, critic, scholar and educationist. He was a prolific writer, authoring some 80 books, innumerable journal and newspaper articles and essays. Although the bulk of his writings are in Odia, his English writings include History of Oriya Literature, Saga of the Land of Jagannath and Ripples on the Mahanadi. His contributions were recognized with the award of Padmashri in 1967 by the Government of India.
