Face, Surface, Interface: Ontology of Odia Culture
₹600.00This is the first explorative book on culture that interprets the rock evidences, tribal and other religious pantheons, politics, and theory of architecture, folk arts, mythology and performing arts of Kalinga, Kosala and Utkala, politically reformulated in 1936 as Orissa.
Having exposed and combined the concepts of culture envisaged by Weber, Durkheim and Parson, the study approaches toward post modern discourse: phenomenology, cultural anthropology and structuralism. The book also determines how transmission of knowledge is central to culture and narrates through its five sections how Odia culture is linked to power in conscious and unconscious ways; how it is insidious, sporadic and ubiquitous; and, of course, how the Odia cultural ideologies, in rare moments, transcend rational boundaries.

Folk Traditions and Cultural Identity of Western Odisha
₹375.00Western Odisha, marked by a rich and diverse assemblage of music, dance, oral narratives, and ritual practices, constitutes one of India’s most significant reservoirs of folk traditions. Sustained through voice, rhythm, movement, and collective memory, these traditions form the core of the region’s cultural identity. They function not merely as aesthetic expressions but as carriers of shared history, spiritual belief systems, and social consciousness. Despite their cultural depth and continuing vitality, the folk traditions of Western Odisha have largely remained on the periphery of academic inquiry, often under-documented and insufficiently theorized within mainstream cultural studies. This volume seeks to address this gap by bringing the living folk traditions of Western Odisha into sharper scholarly focus. It establishes a critical platform for the documentation, interpretation, and re-evaluation of these living traditions within contemporary academic discourse. It explores the multifaceted landscape of the region’s folk culture through an interdisciplinary framework that draws on literature, history, anthropology, musicology, and performance studies. The essays collected here examine folk traditions as dynamic and evolving practices that respond to social change, operating as forms of creative expression, social critique, and cultural resilience in an era shaped by globalization and expanding media ecologies.

Gatha Saptashati
₹500.00This book is a collection of 700 “Gathas” compiled by the great King Satavahana Hala from 2nd Century BC. Gathas are poetic snippets (similar to Shlokas in Sanskrit). Translated from Prakrit (a peer language to Sanskrit prevalent in India 2000 years ago) into Odia and beautifully interpreted, this is a virtual treasure trove of timeless and pithy life lessons. The readers may take this literary voyage into the past and rejoice at the amazing similarity of Prakrit to modern Odia. While languages evolve, the depth, intensity, characteristics and endless capacity of the Gathas to hold the imagination of mankind is impressive. Each snippet in this compilation is unique and complete by itself. This is enough to hold the reader’s attention.

History of Ancient Odia Literature
₹600.00The moment I chose to write this book to outsource Odia literature, a part of my commitment as a historian impels me to seek and serve truth. The writing of history demanded a special kind of observation because all events, having slipped into the past, become hazy and indistinct except the documented traces. The undocumented events turn into memories. I learned to interpret the clues, signs and tracks through cultural memories of the past. But there is no reliable witness in the absolute sense. There is only more or less, reliable testimony.
The book, in the process, turned out to be a means of clarifying my own ideas on the subject. I discovered the humanist dimensions of historical consciousness, although my western contemporaries seem to deny-or at least, put in doubt-the principles of humanism. I have also been guided by the practice of historical reconstruction in literary studies forced by the need to understand historical materials in their own context.
I construct my propositions in two ways-by culling the signifying actions, characters, habits, aims and circumstances of writers and literary terms signifying attributes of literary works. I have followed R.S. Crane’s Critical and Historical Principles of literary History to organize my materials in succession of time, distribution in space and likeness and difference in character. I have undertaken to survey systematically he literary productions of my race through time. In all these primary units of interpretation are either works or, more commonly, authors viewed as the most immediate cause of the characteristics exhibited by their works; but the individual histories differ widely according to the fashion in which the basic principles of succession and of likeness and difference are construed.

Holistic Education Redefined: The Educational Philosophy of Prof. Achyuta Samanta
₹500.00Education is the cornerstone of human development, and its transformative power is most evident when it reaches the underprivileged. Prof. Achyuta Samanta, a visionary social activist and philanthropist, has redefined the landscape of education for marginalized communities through his pioneering institution, the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). His life and work exemplify a profound commitment to holistic education, ensuring that poor tribal students receive not only academic knowledge but also the values, skills, and opportunities needed to thrive in an ever-changing world. We are truly overwhelmed and astonished by the extraordinary KISS Model, which has transformed indigenous students into leaders across various fields.
